The healing effects of honey on the skin have been known for a long time. It is said that Cleopatra used honey for beauty enhancing, and it has been used as a home remedy for a variety of skin ailments.

Until recently however, honey was used simply by putting any kind of raw honey on the skin. Whilst this may have had some beneficial effects, there was no way of telling what antibacterial strength a given honey contained and there were no honey skin products designed specifically for beauty or woundcare purposes.
